Protective Parents – Plovers Nesting at our Back Fence

with No Comments

My family aren’t happy that the plovers have nested right outside our back fence, but I do like the photo opportunity. You may see that I posted Plover (Masked Lapwing) photos a few weeks ago.  That nest was in a different place.  The plovers were there for a week or so and then disappeared.  Now they returned to make another nest near our place. Plovers lay their eggs in the lawn, and then protect their young-to-be very aggressively. They will … Read More

Seashell Treasures Washed up by Rough Seas

with No Comments

A couple of little treasures from my walk on the beach the other Sunday. We had some rough seas and the waves washed them up to me. It took me back to my childhood, walking on the beaches of the Sunshine Coast.  I loved the rough weather as I knew that would wash up plenty of lovely seashells.  Then I would take them home, name and categorise them, and add them to my collection.  My mum still had my shell … Read More

Saltwater on the Southside – Sunshine After Rain

After a nap in the car, I took a walk on the southside of Saltwater Point.  The weather had been cold for an October weekend, but the sun was shining and the weather was glorious here.  But notice how rough the surf is after the bad weather.

What a better way to chill out after a big weekend, than at in the car with a cuppa at the beach?  We’d had a week celebrating birthdays.  Funny how all the birthdays end up around the same time.  Well, not many birthdays now before Christmas.  It was so good to get away and have time out.

September Moon Rising at Old Bar Beach

It was a hectic Friday afternoon in September.  I was so glad about this interruption.  Late afternoon, I rushed to the service station to fill up with fuel.  (I was meaning to do it all day.)  Then on the way home, I spotted the moon above the horizon.  I just had to rush to the beach.  Dinner could wait!  So glad I did. I am posting these photos now, because I read that this month, we are going to have … Read More

Sunset at Mud Bishops

Here is Mud Bishops from the other side of the lagoon.  It was in the afternoon one Sunday in September.  I did hope to find some birdlife, but they had all flown off.  It was still a lovely scene – the sun,sky and clouds, and reflections in the water, and the southern entrance of the Manning River.

Untapped Beauty of Mud Bishops

So often we think that we need to go away to see beautiful places.  But we forget to explore what is at our own back door (or front door). For me this was a couple of kilometres drive down an old dirt road at Old Bar Beach to the southern entrance of the Manning River.  I loved the sandstone rock formation at the edge of this lagoon.  I must return again soon and explore some more.
